4.7.3 – Supervision and Evaluation of Volunteers
Standard: Agency volunteers shall be monitored, shall receive supervisory visits, and be evaluated regarding performance. Supervision and evaluation of volunteers is important to ensure adequate training is provided and to verify satisfactory conduct and performance. The degree to which the agency supervises and evaluates volunteers may vary depending on the role of the volunteers.
Suggested Evidence of Compliance: Provide written description of the monitoring system including current practices for supervisory visits, and examples of evaluations.
Narrative:
PRC volunteers are supervised and evaluated through the Westchester Parks Foundation (WPF) Volunteer Program which is outlined in the PRC Volunteer Program Handbook.
PRC facility staff or WPF staff are responsible for the supervision of volunteers throughout a project. Volunteers are monitored, and in instances where volunteers have received permission to work independently, check-ins are conducted to provide additional instruction and/or assistance.
WPF evaluates volunteers who are working independently or on specific projects based on their role, and on meeting safety standards and following direction from the onsite supervisor. Evaluations consist mainly of meetings with volunteers and facility staff. If a volunteer is not meeting expectations, WPF contact the volunteer to discuss concerns and how to address them and check in regularly to fulfill requirements. An evaluation form is available to use as a guide and can be found in the PRC Volunteer Program Handbook.
