4.7.4 – Recognition of Volunteers

Standard: There agency shall recognize volunteers for their contributions. Recognition may take many forms, depending on the nature of volunteer roles.

Suggested Evidence of Compliance: Provide a description of the recognition program and recognitions given over the past calendar year.

Narrative:

PRC values volunteers and yearly recognition for their contributions is outlined in the PRC Volunteer Program Handbook.

Examples of recognition include Westchester Parks Foundation (WPF) social media posts spotlighting projects, volunteer enrichment events, recognition letters, the annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast, and an end-of-year thank you email blast. In addition, occasionally a volunteer will be nominated for the Volunteer New York Spirit Award and in 2021, volunteer Joseph O’Campo-Petras was honored with the Going Green Award.

Corporate volunteer groups are offered specific benefits for their contributions, name on the WPF website, complimentary tickets to events, acknowledgment in email newsletter, dedicated press release, logo recognition, and on-site sponsorship and presence at a large event.

At the WPF Annual Gala, an award is given to a community partner, volunteer, or volunteer group. In 2022 the Special Recognition Award was presented to The Arc Westchester, an agency supporting children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities. Members participated in numerous PRC volunteer programs.

Volunteers are sometimes treated to food events and receive complimentary entry to special events, for example, The Friends of Lasdon Park and Arboretum (FLPA) offer volunteers a thank you brunch and complimentary tickets to the annual Holidays on the Hill Train Show.
