4.7 – 1R Volunteer Handbook

Narrative:

Volunteers are an integral part of PRC which actively promotes public involvement in the maintenance, improvement, and support of its more than 18,000-acres. The PRC Volunteer Program Handbook outlines the policies and procedures related to the program and its management.

PRC’s not-for-profit organization, The Westchester Parks Foundation (WPF) manages its Volunteer Program and has a roster of 2,000 volunteers who operate under their direction. They are responsible for recruiting, training, monitoring, retaining, as well as rewarding the efforts of volunteers. When the WPF Volunteer Program is contacted by a group, they coordinate an appropriate project or assignment based on the interests of the volunteer and the needs of the parks facilities. WPF works directly with PRC staff to achieve successful outcomes.

The second way volunteers can participate is by working directly with PRC staff at facilities to perform ongoing assistance. PRC supervisors will schedule volunteers based on facility needs and availability.
