4.5 – Workforce Health and Wellness Program

Standard: The agency shall have an employee health and wellness program showing periodic evaluation of the program status.

Suggested Evidence of Compliance: Provide evidence of the agency’s employee health and wellness program, level of participation and most recent evaluation.

Level of Participation: There are 4000 active employees that participant in our health benefits.
15.9% of Westchester County Employees engage with EAP, 12.2% utilize the EAP website.
The wellness magazine/tips go to 4800 active members.
Over 800 employees participated in the Flu Vaccine Clinics.

 

 

Narrative:

PRC employees can take advantage of the Westchester County (WC) Health and Wellness Program which includes a nurse health line, New York State smokers’ quit line, the WC Department of Mental Health’s enhanced Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers free and confidential services, and healthy lifestyles posted on the WC Department of Health Webpage. In addition, employees are offered discounts for gym memberships, stretch facilities and vision centers on the WC Intranet. 

As a government agency, WC offers self-insured health coverage through UMR which provides guidance in its seasonal award winning magazine Healthy You featuring health and wellness articles. UMR offers employees health, dental, vision, and flexible spending plans.   

Health Care programs are negotiated by the unions with review and change, if any, incorporated in amended agreements. The last review and approval of the Civil Service Employee Association (CSEA) agreement was May 9, 2023, and the Teamsters agreement was November 10, 2021.

These union agreements include a generous sick leave policy with employees credited with 5 sick leave days on their first day of employment, and after five months accumulate 1 sick leave day per month. Sick leave roles over annually.

Aflac Cancer Care insurance policy is offered to employees every year along with a representative visit to update employees. Every fall, employees have the opportunity to receive free flu shots at different county buildings. 

At the PRC Administrative Offices, a gym is available to employees as are its public programs in facilities such as Zumba Classes.
